At the end of February, many eBay sellers reported that listings that were supposed to end or renew ended up disappearing altogether. It turns out the issue may stem from eBay’s Good ‘Til Canceled listings, and the problem has been plaguing sellers on the platform for years.
Many eBay Listings Go Missing at the End of February
At the end of February, many eBay sellers reported that listings that were supposed to end or renew were instead disappearing. Sellers impacted by this problem said that the listings were no longer appearing Active in the Seller Hub, but also weren’t showing under Unsold/Ended or Inactive.
As a result, many people were worried that these listings were deleted or lost by eBay. However, it seems that this issue is being caused by a challenge associated with the way some listing renewals work on the platform.
Good ‘Til Canceled Listings on eBay Are Likely to Blame
The cause for this issue that many sellers experienced may be due to how eBay operates the platform’s Good ‘Til Canceled (GTC) listings. Back when these were introduced, listings would renew every 30 days unless the seller ended the listing themselves.
However, this caused issues as it may have led to sellers being charged listing fees twice per month, due to how many days in the month. In response, eBay changed to a monthly renewal system, which is the same system that’s in place today.
The way it works specifically is that GTC listings renew each month on the same day they were listed. However, that still creates an issue if they were listed at the end of the month, as many months have more days than others.
If this happens, the listing duration is changed to end on the last day of a month if it’s shorter, and then returns to the original date for the longer months. While this is generally fine if a month only has a day less than others, February causes some issues.
Because it’s multiple days shorter than each other month, eBay has to handle automatically relisting multiple days’ worth of listings on the last day of February, and also deal with all of the new listings being posted during that time.
As a result, all of this work behind the scenes may often lead to delays in listings appearing where they should. So these “missing” listings aren’t deleted or lost, but are instead stuck in a processing delay while the platform deals with the increased system activity caused by all the listing and relisting.
The Issue Isn’t New and Has Been Happening for Years
While this problem is certainly annoying and frustrating, many long-time eBay sellers aren’t surprised by it. This is because this problem has been happening for years, and dates back to 2019 when the company first made the change.
Each year since then, many people have issued complaints about it. While eBay addressed the delay in 2025 and said the company was implementing measures to increase processing capacity, the exact same issue has continued just a year later.
With the company being willing to make certain changes and updates to the platform, such as changing how sellers see fees and tax reversals, many are wondering why the company hasn’t addressed or fixed this specific issue over the years.
Of course, the company may have attempted to fix it, only to realize the additional processing capacity they secured wasn’t enough. On the contrary, there’s also the chance eBay has simply ignored this issue and doesn’t feel like spending time, money, and effort on it.
Only time will tell if this issue continues, or if it finally gets fixed, but if you’re worried about experiencing it yourself, consider listing your items near the beginning or the middle of a month, as opposed to the last day or two.
