eBay Just Released Its 2026 Holiday Seller Playbook. The Most Important Thing in It Is a New Feature

eBay released its 2026 Seller Holiday Playbook this week alongside a seller webinar, surveying 2,000 US shoppers about their holiday plans. The headline data: 57% of shoppers expect to start holiday shopping by October or earlier, more than half compare prices across sites before buying, and 26% expect to spend more this year than last. The most actionable thing in the release is not a statistic. It is the launch of bundle discounts for all sellers, expanding from a phased rollout to full availability this week, a feature that directly addresses how eBay's own data says holiday shoppers behave.

eBay Just Released Its 2026 Holiday Seller Playbook. The Most Important Thing in It Is a New Feature, Not a Tip.

eBay released its 2026 Seller Holiday Playbook alongside a seller webinar on August 20, bringing together fresh shopper research and practical preparation guidance for Q4. There are three things worth pulling out separately: the consumer data, the listing and discovery guidance, and the new feature that launched alongside the playbook.

What eBay’s Shopper Survey Found

57% of surveyed shoppers say they expect to start holiday shopping by October or earlier. More than half compare prices across sites before buying. 26% expect to spend more this year than last. Clear product images and competitive pricing ranked as the two most important factors when buying online.

The October-or-earlier figure is the most immediately actionable one for sellers. A majority of eBay’s holiday shoppers will be in active purchasing mode within the next six weeks. The sellers who have their listings optimised, their inventory in place, and their promotional mechanics configured before October will be competing for that early-mover spend. The sellers who treat November as the start of holiday selling will be competing for a smaller share of late-season traffic.

The price comparison data connects to the FinanceBuzz US shopper survey we covered this month, which showed 81% of American online shoppers add items to hit free shipping thresholds and 21% abandon at checkout because their preferred payment method is missing. More than half of eBay’s holiday shoppers are comparing prices across sites, which means listing at an uncompetitive price is more likely to result in a lost sale than in a less price-conscious environment.

The 26% expecting to spend more than last year sits alongside the Alchemer holiday survey showing 38% of US shoppers citing tighter budgets as their biggest holiday factor. Both can be true. For eBay sellers, the “spend more” cohort is worth targeting with higher-AOV bundles and premium listings. The budget-conscious cohort is worth targeting with value framing and competitive pricing.

What the Playbook Recommends

On listings: eBay is emphasising item specifics and product details as the primary lever for holiday discoverability, connecting directly to the AI commerce story we covered in the ReFiBuy AI Commerce Rankings piece this week. The brands winning AI-driven discovery are the ones with the richest, most structured product data. On eBay specifically, item specifics, the structured attribute fields that describe size, colour, material, brand, and other product characteristics, are the inputs eBay’s search algorithm uses to match buyers to relevant listings.

On buyer trust: shipping speed, returns policies, and detailed product information are the trust signals that convert browsers into buyers.

On promotional tools: Promoted Listings Standard and Advanced, volume pricing, and the new bundle discounts feature are all highlighted for increasing visibility and basket size during peak season.

The Feature That Matters More Than the Tips

Bundle discounts are now available to all sellers starting this week, after a phased rollout. Sellers can set different percentage discounts for two, three, and four or more items. The offer appears on eligible listings, then eBay recommends additional products from the seller’s inventory after a buyer adds something to their cart.

Bundle discounts solve a specific problem that eBay sellers have had in the holiday gifting season: buyers purchasing multiple items as gifts cannot easily be offered a multi-item discount within the normal listing mechanics. Amazon has had multi-unit pricing mechanics for years. eBay’s bundle discounts bring equivalent functionality to its marketplace.

The eBay recommendation engine is the feature within the feature: after a buyer adds an eligible item to their cart, eBay surfaces other products from the same seller’s inventory. This is a meaningful change in how eBay supports seller cross-selling during the moment of highest purchase intent.

For sellers with broad or complementary inventory, enabling bundle discounts now, before October’s early shopping traffic arrives, means the mechanic will be active for the full holiday season.

The Four New Seller Hub Features Worth Knowing

Alongside the playbook, eBay Manager of Seller Experience Bill MacEwen previewed four new features coming to Seller Hub: listings and order summary modules on the overview page, recommendations on active listings, new support for 4×6 label printers and consolidated print jobs that let you print labels and packing slips in the same job, and a new “combined shipping” tag on orders that flags when a buyer has made multiple purchases that could ship together.

The consolidated print jobs and the combined shipping tag are both operational improvements that reduce friction during high-volume periods. The combined shipping tag specifically helps sellers identify when a single buyer’s multiple purchases could be shipped together, reducing postage costs and improving the buyer experience.

Our Take

eBay’s Holiday Playbook Is Available Now. So Is the Bundle Discount Feature.

The eBay 2026 Holiday Playbook is a standard seasonal seller resource that eBay publishes annually, and most of its content is consistent advice that experienced eBay sellers will already be familiar with.

The two things that make this week’s release worth paying attention to are the bundle discounts launch, a genuine new feature with real commercial mechanics for cross-selling during the gift-buying season, and the October-or-earlier shopping timeline from eBay’s own survey.

If 57% of eBay’s holiday shoppers are in active purchasing mode by October, the sellers who treat October as preparation month rather than selling month are handing the first wave of holiday spend to sellers who are already ready. With six weeks until October, there is still time to be in the ready group.
